The Canadian Hellenic Congress of Alberta completed the following activities from November 2016 – November 2017:
November 2016 – Sent an email to the newly formed Hellenic Parliament Special Permanent Committee for Diaspora. As per their request, we have sent the contact information of the Canadian Hellenic Congress of Alberta to initiate dialogue and communication.
December 2016 – Introduced and accompanied City Councilor Scott MacKeen, and MP, Randy Boissonnault at the Greek Christmas Celebration in Edmonton.
February 2017 – Tax Laws in Greece
Worked with the communities of Edmonton and Calgary to organize a tax presentation on tax laws in Greece with James Kromida, a Chartered Professional Accountant from Montreal. The presentations were held in Edmonton on March 4th, and Calgary on March 5th. Elizabeth Hanlis introduced Mr. Kromida at the Edmonton presentation.
February 2017 – April 2017 – Supported Greek Immigration Project
Communicated information about a Greek Immigration Project in Canada to the Edmonton and Calgary Communities. This project will document the experiences and artifacts of Greek Immigrants to Canada. The CHCA worked with the lead researcher from Simon Fraser University to arrange a location for interviews to be held in Edmonton on April 20-22. A list of possible people to interview as also prepared by Dr. A. Tavouktsoglou and sent to Dr. Pappas the lead researcher.
March 20, 2017 – Bringing together the two communities in Edmonton
Met for coffee with the President of the Hellenic Canadian Community of Edmonton and Region, Mr. Jim Chronopoulos to introduce him to the Canadian Hellenic Congress and propose that a joint dinner is organized during the Consular Officer’s visit to Edmonton.
March 20, 2017 – Letter of Support for the Senate for Motion 158
Prepared a letter of support on behalf of the Canadian Hellenic Congress of Alberta for the Senate for Motion 158 – Recognition of the Genocide of Pontic Greeks and Designate May 19th as Remembrance Day. The letter was sent for approval to the CHCA members. Senator Pana Merchant sent a letter thanking the Canadian Hellenic Congress for their contribution.
April 2, 2017 – Submitted an application to request that the Mayor of Edmonton proclaim May 19th, 2017 as the Greek Pontian Genocide Remembrance Day in Edmonton.
April 2017 – Participated in Organizing Visit from the Consular Officer’s to Edmonton
April 22, 2017 – Organized and held the Canadian Hellenic Congress annual AGM in Calgary (participants also joined via teleconference and Skype).
April 30, 2017 – Participated in the Canadian Hellenic Congress National Council teleconference.
May 9, 2017 – Disseminated information about the Greek Immigration Project to Canada to the National Council of the Canadian Hellenic Congress, in hopes that the immigration experiences of Greeks across Canada are documented.
May 2017 –
The Mayor of Edmonton proclaimed May 19th, 2017 as the Greek Pontian Genocide Remembrance Day in Edmonton.
Worked with the Greek Orthodox Community of St. George to organize a memorial and wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the Orthodox Christians of the Pontian Greek Genocide.

Attended a service representing the Canadian Hellenic Congress of Alberta where Fr. Charalambos Tzintis was bestowed with the Offikion of Economos.
Participated in all National Council teleconferences, apart from July 2017
November 10-12, 2017
Attended the National Canadian Hellenic Congress Convention and AGM in Laval, Quebec.
November 22-28, 2017
Provided feedback to a Press Release sent out regarding the floods of Mandra, Attiki, Greece.
Distributed Press Release regarding floods of Mandra, Attiki, Greece to mailing list.
November 27-28, 2017
Provided feedback to letter that for Foreign Minister of Greece Nikolaos Kotzias regarding the Skopja-FYROM name.
